Some DJs don’t promote Highlife music – Lucky Mensah

Veteran Highlife artiste, Lucky Mensah, has made a shocking revelation that Ghanaian DJs do not promote Highlife music.

Speaking in an interview with Foster Romanus on e.TV Ghana’s ‘The Late Nite Celebrity show’ , Lucky Mensah said, he believes that the industry with respect to highlife has not performed as well as expected and this he attributed largely to poor promotion by our DJs.

He sighted KK Fosu and Kofi B as examples of those whose songs did not do well.

He further explained that Ghanaian DJs have skewed their attention solely to modern genres of music like Hiplife, Dancehall and other foreign genres without adding Highlife to their playlist.

“When we compose the song, some DJs don’t help to promote it. They rather promote Hiplife, Dancehall, foreign music and other genres of music other than Highlife. It’s not that our artistes are not doing good music; they are but the promotion is down”.

“Just a few DJs play Highlife especially the up and coming DJs,” he added.

He however commended Happy FM’s DJ Advicer on his constant airing of Highlife music.

The ‘Nkratuo’ singer has been on a long break in music starting around 2010 which he attributed to something big he was working on. He then hinted that his new music video would be out next week.
