Hundreds of youth at Manso Tontokrom in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region have been rounded up in a dawn swoop by some soldiers, MyNewsGh.com reports.
It is, however, unclear what might have necessitated the raid, but an eyewitness who spoke with Kumasi-based Angel FM this morning said it could be linked to a feud over a 75 acre land, which has allegedly been allocated by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, to one Mr Ben, a Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in China for mining purposes.
The soldiers reportedly arrived in the town around 12 am Saturday dawn, packed in over 18 trucks.
According to the eyewitness, the soldiers have surrounded the town and mounted barriers at its exit and entry points to prevent the flow of traffic in and out of the town.
The arrested youth, he said have been assembled on a football pitch.
