Snoop Dogg has shared a series of nostalgic posts to celebrate the 29th anniversary of his 1993 multi-platinum debut album, Doggystyle.
The veteran MC kicked off his celebration with a photo of himself wearing a shirt bearing the classic LP’s cover artwork, designed by artist Joe Cool. “Doggystyle is 29years old today. Nov 23 1993,” Snoop captioned the post along with a series of celebratory emojis.
He followed up the post with a video of an unidentified artist completing a rendering of the album cover, made out of what looks like colored sand.

Finally, Snoop Dogg shared a clip of himself performing a remixed version of “Gin & Juice” with Dr. Dre, Daz Dillinger and Kurupt at the 1993 American Music Awards.

While Doggystyle was released on Death Row/Interscope on November 23, 1993 in CD and vinyl format, the cassette version was released two weeks earlier by Atlantic Records. Powered by the lead single “Who Am I? (What’s My Name?),” as well as Snoop’s significant contributions to Dr. Dre’s The Chronic the previous year, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with over 800,000 first-week sales.
The project’s other megahit single, “Gin & Juice,” was released the following January and pushed Doggystyle to its first platinum certification. By May of 1994, the project had been certified 4x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
To date, the Doggystyle remains Snoop Dogg’s best selling album, with only two other projects — 1996’s Tha Doggfather and 1998’s Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told — being certified double platinum.
It also bears the distinction of being one of two Snoop albums, alongside the aforementioned Tha Doggfather, to remain unavailable on streaming platforms — a fact fans brought up in the comments sections of each of Snoop Dogg’s celebratory posts.
The Long Beach OG, who is widely credited with having helped popularized the West Coast sound nationally, has gone on to release a total of 19 studio albums, 17 compilations, 3 EPs and 25 mixtapes. The most recent, BODR arrived earlier this year following Snoop’s acquisition of Death Row Records through a deal with MNRK Music Group (formerly known as eOne Music).
His latest mixtape, Gangsta Grillz: I Still Got It arrived just last month on October 20, his 51st birthday. The project was first announced in September after Snoop Dogg and DJ Drama hopped on a FaceTime call together and teased fans with a screenshot of their conversation on Instagram.
The mixtape marked Drama’s sixth Gangsta Grillz release this year following the likes of Jim Jones’ We Set the Trends, Dreamville’s D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape and Symba’s Results Take Time.
The veteran DJ, who won his first Grammy earlier this year thanks to Tyler, The Creator’s Gangsta Grillz-inspired Call Me If You Get Lost, also delivered Snofall with longtime collaborator Jeezy one day after Snoop’s tape.
During an appearance on Stephen A. Smith’s Know Mercy podcast last month, Snoop Dogg revealed he’s making a new album with Dr. Dre called Missionary.
The project is due to be finished in November, although it’s unclear when it will be released exactly. As for the meaning behind the title, Snoop told Smith: “The first album was Doggystyle,” prompting a roar of laughter from the sports personality.
