SNOOP DOGG ADMITS ‘GIN & JUICE’ GRAMMY LOSS ‘HURT’ BUT WINNER’S PRAISE CUSHIONED THE BLOW

Snoop Dogg has admitted he was a bit distraught when his 1994 hit single “Gin and Juice” didn’t win a Grammy Award, but there was one person who was able to cheer him up.

In a snippet from the West Coast legend’s new Audible audio book, From Tha Streets To The Suites, he discussed the various thoughts and feelings he experienced after he lost to Queen Latifah’s uplifting track, “U.N.I.T.Y.” for Best Rap Solo Performance at the 1995 Grammy Awards.

“Queen Latifah approached me about that song,” Snoop Dogg explained. “Me and her was nominated for a Grammy for [‘Gin and Juice’] against ‘U.N.I.T.Y..’ She won and I was hurt, but she was like, ‘N-gga, I love ‘Gin and Juice.’ That’s my favorite shit.’ So then I got unhurt fast.”

He added: “You know a muthafucka get hurt ’cause he lose and shit. But I’m like, damn this is the Queen, n-gga. Bow down. This is the muthafuckin’ queen, and she told me that. She said: ‘But, I love ‘Gin and Juice,’ that’s my favorite shit.’ So I was like you know what? I can take that L.”

Other nominees that year included, Coolio‘s “Fantastic Voyage,” Craig Mack‘s, “Flava In Ya Ear,” and Warren G‘s, “This D.J.”

As for Snoop Dogg’s From Tha Streets To The Suites audio book, it will feature live performances of some of his most iconic records which will be performed by the band 1500 or Nothin’. The book arrives June 15.

In other Snoop Dogg news, he and longtime collaborator Dr. Dre have gotten fans excited by giving a concrete update on the status of their long-awaited new album, Missionary.

Taking to Instagram last week, Snoop shared a photo of Dre sat behind the boards, coffee in hand, as he reflectively chips away on some new tunes.

While a release date still remained elusive for the project, Snoop confirmed in the caption that fans will soon get their hands on some new music from the West Coast legends, writing: “Coming soon.”

Conway The Machine was just one of the people who expressed his excitement at seeing Dre back at it, writing “yes!!!!” in the comments with multiple fire emojis.

The pair were first spotted reuniting in the studio last March, with Snoop announcing on Instagram: “The Chronic is bac home.” Snoop then confirmed during a red carpet appearance last summer for ET that the two of them were in fact “cooking up” something new.

That announcement was followed by an appearance on Stephen A. Smith’s Know Mercy podcast last October, where Snoop said they were in fact working on a new project called Missionary.

“I’ma tell you this, you’re the first one to hear this: me and Dr. Dre have been working on an album for the past two months,” Snoop said at the time. “And it’ll be done in November. It’s produced by Dr. Dre, it’s our 30th anniversary to Doggystyle. And the name of the album is Missionary.”

When Smith asked: “Why that name?” Snoop replied: “The first album was Doggystyle,” prompting a roar of laughter from the sports personality. “That is beautiful. I love it, man,” Smith commented.
