Simone Biles defended her husband Jonathan Owens after fans blasted him for wearing the first Olympic gold medal she won at the Paris Games this week.
“Crazy thing is, I put my medal on every single one of my family members and took pictures. So don’t ever make assumptions,” she commented under TikToker Kiera Breaugh’s video critiquing the Chicago Bears player.
“Like y’all are so f–ing miserable. Leave us alone.”
The 27-year-old gymnast’s clapback came as a result of fans ripping Owens, 29, for wearing her medal in photos after she led Team USA to a gold medal in the team competition on Tuesday.
One snapshot he posted showed the couple — who tied the knot in 2023 — smiling at the camera, while the second pic showed them kissing. He wore Biles’ medal and held it up proudly to the camera in both photographs.
“Witnessing history every time you step on the mat 😍🔥 Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!!” he gushed in his caption.
“Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful i was there to see it ❤️🤍💙.”
Instead of cheering the couple on, many fans slammed Owens for thinking it was acceptable to wear the coveted medal.
“But why are you wearing it? How odd,” one Instagram user snickered.
“I’m annoyed that he’s holding it like bfffr it’s not YOURS 😭,” added another.
A third unhappy fan wrote, “Mr. Simone Biles, if you don’t give that woman back her medal like bffr 😂😭.”
After securing her eighth Olympic medal, Biles went on to win gold on Thursday in the individual all-around competition as well.
Owens seemingly brushed off the hate and celebrated the world-renowned Olympian in a second post on Instagram.
“Greatness 🐐 I love you so much baby ❤️🫶🏽💙 You accomplish whatever you set your mind to, and do it with so much grace. 9 time Olympic medalist and counting!!!! So proud to be your husband 🤞🏽🥇” he penned.
Fans are extra critical of the NFL player because he said he was the “catch” in their relationship during a December 2023 appearance on the “Pivot” podcast. He also claimed he had no idea who Biles was when they first met.
Trolls instantly took to social media to bash him for making such a comment, but Biles and Owens confirmed they didn’t let the criticism get to them after the latter shared a montage of photos with his wife and captioned it, “Unbothered 😂❤️ Just know we locked in over here 🤞🏽.”
“🤞🏾💋 for life,” the Olympian added in the comment section.
In April, however, she admitted the uproar took a toll on her mental health and defended him once more.
“He said he was a catch. Because he is! I’ve never met a man like him,” she said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast.
The following month, she addressed the situation again and told anyone being “disrespectful” to “respectfully f–k off.”
Owens spoke out about the matter in July as well, telling Us Weekly he ignores the hate comments.
“I don’t mean to cuss, but like, damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If you say something, they’re going to say something; if you don’t say something, they’re going to say something,” he explained.
“So, just live your life. People are going to talk about you anyway, so you might as well do it the way you want to.”
