Francia Raisa’s dad, El Cucuy, revealed why his daughter stopped speaking to her ex-BFF Selena Gomez.
Five years after generously donating her kidney to the superstar in 2017, the actress’ father confirmed speculation that the former pals had a falling-out during a recent appearance on Primer Impacto earlier this year.
During the interview, in which he spoke in Spanish, the radio personality stated that ‘it was no secret what happened between’ his 34-year-old and the two-time Grammy nominee.
According to TMZ’s translation of his interview, El Cucuy claimed the pair had a ‘disagreement’ over Gomez’s alleged drinking following the transplant, which upset Raisa.
Raisa reportedly told the Wolves singer that ‘she didn’t give her a kidney, so she could go out and drink.’
Her concerns are valid as ‘regularly drinking alcohol above the maximum recommended limits can raise your blood pressure, which can be dangerous for people with a kidney transplant,’ according to National Health Service (NHS).
DailyMail.com has reached out to Raisa and Gomez’s respective representatives for a comment.
On Monday, Raisa revealed one of Gomez’s fans threatened to ‘rip out her other kidney’ after being accused of shading the Only Murders in the Building star.
In footage, obtained by TMZ, following days of online harassment, the Los Angeles native made it clear that she and Gomez do not ‘condone bullying.’
‘She literally has a whole non-profit [Rare Impact Fund] dedicated to mental health. And I believe Rare Beauty just even had an event [Rare Beauty Mental Health Summit] for mental health,’ the How I Met Your Father star said.
She continued: ‘So the fact that now I’m being bullied as I am is messing with me mentally. It’s just, to me, it’s not what anyone wants for someone, and she’s literally out there saying please stop. So I don’t understand why this is happening.’
The performer explained that she is ‘doing best to not listen, to breathe’ and is ‘very happy.’
Raisa then addressed the trolls directly as she insisted: ‘I’m living my life. I’m sending love to everyone. I understand. I’ve been a hardcore fan of people growing up myself. I totally, totally, totally get it. But, you know, it’s not nice. So I would say, not just with me, but for anyone, please stop.’
The interview came after deflecting all of Backgrid’s questions about Gomez by instead discussing the weather, being from the San Fernando Valley, the Lakers and avocado trees.
When asked if she regretted donating one of her kidneys to the Wizards of Waverly Place alum – who’s now in remission from the autoimmune disorder Lupus – in 2017, Raisa replied: ‘I would definitely speak to someone again about organ donation and the process and stuff.’
