Security expert predicts low voter turnout in 2020

A security expert at the University of Cape Coast, Dr Kingsley Adjei is predicting a low voter turnout in 2020 General elections.

Dr Adjei who was speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Friday says Ghana is treading on slippery ground.

He revealed current developments could affect the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

“Ghana treading on slippery grounds. I think the National Security Coordination is very weak and must sit up else 2020 voter turnout will be low,” he stated.

The warning follows chaos and gunshots that nearly marred the Ayawaso West-Wuogon Constituency by-election on Thursday.

The situation did not only force the National Democratic Congress to withdraw from the elections which eventually saw NPP’s candidate, Lydia Alhassan win over 68 percent of votes cast.

According to the security expert, it is important that elections in Ghana are conducted in a free environment devoid of fear, intimidation, and violence.

He noted that the current vigilante attack and other violent-related incidents are an indication Ghana is not safe.
