Russ Celebrates First Platinum Plaque While Owning His Masters

Russ proves that owning your own masters is not only ideal, but feasible.

Russ
has been relatively quiet of late, but rest assured, the bags are continuing to stack. The Forbes list champion has long been an advocate for musical ownership, having consistently preached the DIY, grassroots approach. Now, Russ has put his money where his mouth is, cutting the middleman out entirely, and joining the digital distributor TuneCore. As you might know, TuneCore acts as a digital distributor, allowing artists to sign up and host their music on all the major streaming services. Clearly, Russ has been reaping the benefits of his decision, as recent single “Ain’t Nobody Takin’ My Baby” has officially gone platinum.

First platinum plaque on my Tunecore. There’s still money in selling music. You just have to own it ????

“First platinum plaque on my Tunecore,” writes Russ. “There’s still money in selling music. You just have to own it.” Say what you will about the man, but he speaks the truth in this instance. With tools like TuneCore at your disposal, it’s easier than ever to retain possessions of your own masters. It’s becoming an increasingly accepted reality that anything other than full ownership will likely lead to some hurdles down the road. Do your due dilly.
