Rapper Fatman Scoop Has Medical Emergency, Collapses on Stage and Is Taken to Hospital

Fatman Scoop was taken to hospital after he collapsed while performing in concert.

The rapper, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, collapsed onstage during a gig he played at the Town Center Park in Hamden, Conn., on Friday, Aug. 30, Mayor Lauren Garrett confirmed in a post on Facebook.

“Tonight, while performing at Hamden Town Center Park, Isaac Freeman, aka Fatman Scoop, had a medical emergency on stage,” Garrett wrote of the 53-year-old artist. “He is being transported by ambulance to the hospital. We will provide updates when they are available. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”

Authorities were called in to the location for a medical emergency at 8:33 p.m., TMZ reported on Aug, 30. Hamden Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for further information.

In footage posted of the incident on X (formerly Twitter), Freeman appeared shirtless as he walked from the front of the stage to the back where a raised DJ booth was located. He stepped up on the booth, saying into a microphone, “I said, Hamden make some noise!”

The rapper then stood beside the DJ while leaning forward on the booth. “Way down,” Freeman continued. “If you came to party … make some noise …” He then leaned to his side, knocking into the DJ, as he fell to the ground behind the booth.

In footage from the concert shared by TMZ, what appeared to medics in high-vis vests gave chest compressions to Freeman as he lay motionless behind the booth while concertgoers watched on.

One concertgoer was also heard saying in the clip “They doing CPR.”

Towards the end of the clip, another concertgoer filmed as more people tended to Freeman while appearing to move him from the stage, seemingly to be transported to the hospital. “Oh my god,” the individual filming was heard saying.
