R. Kelly’s Brooklyn Cellmate Sketches Comic of Pair’s Life in Jail

R. Kelly’s cellmate at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn sketched a comic strip of his day-to-day life with the disgraced singer that is making its rounds on social media.

Brendan Hunt, 37, submitted the comic to federal officials in an effort to get time served on his sentence. The comic shows Hunt and Kelly doing yoga together, listening to music, and working out.

According to the comic strip, Hunt hadn’t known any of Kelly’s music prior to the pair meeting in jail. “I’m the greatest R&B star in human history! How can you not know of R. Kelly?” he asked Hunt.

Hunt’s attorney said the comic was a display of his client’s creative ambitions and the contents of his sketches highlighted his ability to foster “lasting friendships” he made “with some of the most unlikely characters.”

Hunt is currently facing 63 months in federal prison for threats made toward federal officials. “Mr. Hunt is a very different man today than the one who posted the “Kill Your Senators” video and took it down a few hours later. He testified he wants to be a peacemaker, and his digital footprint supports that this is his ideal,” wrote Hunt’s lawyer Jan Rostal.

“The defendant’s threats to murder Members of Congress are even more serious because he made his ‘Kill Your Senators’ threat video just days after angry supporters of former President Trump violently stormed the Capitol,” wrote Assistant U.S. Attorney Ian Richardson.
