Questlove has let it be known he’s not impressed with some of the commentary at this year’s U.S. Open tennis tournament.
On Wednesday night (August 31), Serena Williams faced off against Anett Kontaveit at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.
Shortly after the match took place, The Roots drummer headed to Instagram with a video clip of the commentators mistaking Dionne Warwick for Gladys Knight, which apparently didn’t sit right with him.
“Not like this,” he wrote in the caption. “Dionne Warwick people!!!!! DIONNE WARWICK!!!!! @therealdionnew.”

Rappers and singers have been misidentified by the media on numerous occasions over the years. In March 2021, ESPN mistakingly mixed up a photo of 2 Chainz with Future as the company attempted to showcase Future’s 2015 single “March Madness” by comparing it to one of NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain’s 1960s statlines. But the picture used in the slide that was supposed to be Future was actually 2 Chainz rocking Lakers gear.
Less than a year later, Cardi B was mistaken for Nicki Minaj (long considered her rival) as she, Offset and her sister Hennessy walked into the Winter Wonderland strip club in New York City.
The DJ shouted: “Shout-out to Nicki Minaj in the muthafuckin’ building, let’s go. Nicki let’s fuck it up,” to which Cardi snapped back, “Who’s in the building tonight. Because we’re with all the fucking smoke. Are we getting dangerous tonight? DJ, are we getting fucking dangerous tonight?”
Meanwhile, Black Thought recently opened up about the forthcoming new album from The Roots.
During a recent Zoom interview, the seasoned MC discussed the long-awaited follow-up to 2014’s … And Then You Shoot Your Cousin.
“The Roots album could be done whenever we need it to be,” Thought told DX. “We got enough songs, and I feel like it’s cohesive. It’s not like a, ‘We’re about to start,’ so it boils down to just that refinement, which songs are actually completed. We have hundreds of compositions, a couple hundred ideas, because it’s been a minute.”
