Polo G has been branded “stupid” after he bragged in a recent video about being the only rapper who travels without security.
The clip finds the Chicago rapper wandering around outside with a massive chain around his neck and claiming that while he doesn’t move with security, he’ll never get caught “lacking.”
“All on the strip by my lonesome today,” Polo said. “I ain’t lacking, though. The [pistol] on my hip, I ain’t lacking, though. On my kids, n-ggas know just how I’m coming. I’m the only rapper you know who pop out dolo with no security.”
Fans were quick to criticize Polo G’s flex, with a few noting the slew of high-profile murders and shootings that have plagued the rap community in recent years.
“It ain’t a flex to be stupid,” wrote one critic in an Instagram comment. “Just ask JayDaYoungan, Young Dolph, PNB Rock,Pop Smoke, XXXTentacion,Lil Tjay, FBG Duck, TakeOff and the list goes on.”
Another critic pointed out that despite his self-assured words, Polo appeared jumpy in the video and was constantly looking over his shoulder.
“He keep looking back lmao just get security man it’s always n-ggas tryna prove a point,” they wrote, while another noted that the Hall of Fame hitmaker appeared to have filmed the video on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, which isn’t exactly known as a dangerous neighborhood.
“Beverly hills security guards on every corner,” someone wrote. “Theres a old chinese ladies on that same street wit a million dollar watches and necklaces on.”
In other Polo G news, the 24-year-old recently dropped his latest single “No Time Wasted” featuring Future. It’s been a while since fans got a full-length release from Polo, with his last project being 2021’s Hall of Fame 2.0.
Its predecessor, Hall of Fame, dropped in 2019 and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, securing him his first chart-topping album.
Polo G apologized for the lack of new music last summer, saying he had plans to drop more material in 2022 but that it never came to fruition.
“Music wise I was posed to b turnt this year,” Polo tweeted last July. “Especially the summer…I feel like I let my fans down being inconsistent…this shit b so weak.”
In a pair of follow-up tweets, he added: “On top of dat I gat real crack like I been gettin back in my bag & I been so eager fa y’all to hear dis shit. I promise u though fa all the ppl who truly fwm & been rockin w me imma make this shit up to y’all I promise.”
In a previous interview at Rolling Loud Miami 2022, Polo G did share that he’s hard at work on an album with 808 Mafia producer Southside. “The name to be announced, but it’s a lit project,” he said. “This some of my coldest shit I’ve dropped in a min.”
