Police arrest colleague officer with Indian hemp

A prison officer at the Tamale Central Prisons, Cpl. Sackey Emmanuel Kwabena, is in the grips of the Northern Regional Police Command for possessing nine wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect was arrested at the prison facility by two of his colleague officers, ASP Francis Weigam and Chief Officer Gilbert Guru, in the early hours of Monday February 4, 2019.

According to the Northern Regional Police PRO, ASP Sulemana Tanko, the suspect was spotted with a hand bag at the prisons premises and when the bag was searched, the exhibits were found on him.

In a police report signed by ASP Tanko, the incident actually took place on Sunday at about 8:30pm but the suspect was arrested the following day and handed over to the police.

He indicated the suspect is in police custody and will be charged for possession of substance without authority.

The case is under investigation and suspect is being processed and will soon be arraigned before court.
