A former Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has admonished the youth in the Asuogyman district to desist from drug abuse and fraudulent acts that have the tendency of destroying their future.
Mr. Paul Asare Ansah while imploring young people to eschew nefarious activities and other vices such as drug abuse and internet fraud among others, challenged them to instead be studious enough to enable them pass their exams with distinctions to grant them sound academic qualifications to take up any position within any professional establishment.
The former Director-General who described the coming year (2019) as potentially fruitful with the establishment of many factories & companies in the district said the development will provide various job opportunities for the youth of Asuogyaman and beyond.
He made the call while interacting with journalists at an end of year party he organized for chiefs, pastors, elders, youths and children numbering over 4000 from several communities within the Asuogyaman district on Monday 31st December 2018.
The communities included Aboasa, Nnudu, Kwanyarko and surrounding communities.
Mr. Paul Asare Ansah said he decided to share the fat cow donated to him by polling station executives from Jekiti which he said he cannot consume alone.
On education, he urged the youth of Asuogyaman to reposition themselves through education and acquiring of employable skills to make them self-reliant.
The director while observing that there are a lot of job opportunities in the area however decried the lack of the requisite qualification by the youth to occupy these positions.
He said the situation has compelled young people in the district to alternatively engage in menial jobs to survive, activities which he observed may not be enough for their upkeep.
He advised the youth to ponder over their New Year resolutions and how to achieve them. He said his doors are open and encouraged the youth not to hesitate to confer on him for his assistance.
Some of the youth at the party who could not hide their joy and appreciation to Mr. Paul Ansah Asare for his care and love for residents expressed their appreciation to the director and urged him to take steps to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries and ultimately represent the people of the Asuogyaman constituency in parliament come 2021, adding that they are ready to support him.
