Orlando Bloom on Falling in Love with Katy Perry: ‘I Wouldn’t Change It for Anything’

Orlando Bloom is opening up about his relationship with Katy Perry.

During an appearance on the Thursday, April 18 episode of the What Now? with Trevor Noah podcast, Bloom, 47, spoke about the candid moments he shares with Perry, 39, in his new documentary series, Orlando Bloom: To The Edge.

As host Noah, 40, commented on the pair seemingly pursuing “a life of purpose,” “peace” and “normalcy,” despite their huge showbiz status, Bloom responded, “I think one of the things that I fell in love with Katy was… she hates when I say this, so I have to word it carefully, but her music was everywhere, right?”

“When I came up, it was just on every radio station, but I wasn’t conscious of… [it] wasn’t what I was listening to, but, I fell in love with Katheryn, this girl from Santa Barbara. And by the way, parents, pastors, living on food stamps,” the Lord of the Rings actor said in a nod to Perry’s upbringing.

“We’re not talking glamorous, Montecito,” Bloom pointed out, adding that it’s the “side [of Santa Barbara] that no one knows.”

Perry and Bloom met in 2016 at a Golden Globes afterparty and got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019. They share a daughter, Daisy Dove, 3.
While speaking to Noah, Bloom said he and Perry both have an “understanding where we came from, what we worked to do, what we had to do to get to where we got to,” admitting that the “Roar” singer “definitely demands that I evolve.”

“I feel I do the same for her. And that makes for fireworks, pardon the pun,” he continued, referencing Perry’s hit single. “But it also makes for a lot of fun and a lot of growth.”

“I wouldn’t change it for anything, even when sometimes it feels like, ‘how do we do this?’ Because we’ve got these two giant careers and lives, and hers is even, you know… it’s like a universe sometimes,” Bloom continued of their relationship. “But I think I just keep coming back to her and trying to hold her hand and walk her back to the sand pit and be like… we’re just gonna build a sandcastle.”

The Carnival Row star — who also shares son Flynn, 13, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, 40 — commented on the “little moments” such as “the sandcastle” or a bike ride being special to himself and Perry, telling Noah that Perry is a “master” of helping to “keep building those moments.”

“So I try to, I try to hold a space big enough. I try to be big enough. I think you could even say in the show, it was like me proving to myself that I was man enough, big enough, whatever, capable enough,” he continued.
