So soon you say, well, believe it or not, the balloting for the regional qualifiers for TV’s most popular Science and Maths show has begun.
After the 2018 fiasco that saw Gabriel Sasu and Jeffery Quaye of Adisadel College bottle their win in the Grand Finale, the Cape Coast giants must be preparing for a mighty come back in 2019.
Away from the region that has won more titles than any other. Let us bring our lenses to the capital, Accra.
One school that many would have had their monies behind in 2018 is two-time winners, Achimota School. They, however, crashed out after losing a tie-breaking question to Tamale Senior High at the 1/8 stage.
That loss caused them a seeded spot for the 2019 nationals; so like the proverbial common man, they have to go through the hustle of regional qualifiers.
The balloting for that commenced on Wednesday, February 6, 2019.
Achimota School will have to defeat Wesley Grammar School, Nungua SHS and underdogs Ngleshie Amanfrom to get the ‘against supporters union’ (ASU) off their backs.
But there is another big fish in Accra which has to battle at the regional level for a spot in the nationals.
Labone SHS might have risen eyebrows in times past but they would have to prove that past glory right from the regionals.
A 1/8 stage elimination in the 2018 contest after they scored a paltry 19 points would not be enough to send shivers down the spine of their opponents at the 2019 nationals.
But to get a chance to prove that wrong, they would have to put down equally potent St Mary’s SHS and two underdogs -Prampram SHS and Odorgonno SHS- at the regional level.
The other contests for Greater Accra are below.
