Nick Cannon has called Mariah Carey everything from his ex-wife to the love of his life, but now, he’s comparing their relationship to the one between America’s ex-president and the current Russian president.
In a recent interview, the father of 12 revealed that he thought the “Emotions” singer had a “frenemy”-like relationship with him during their marriage.
“Imagine if, like, Trump and Putin had to live in the same house,” he said to The Los Angeles Times on Sunday (May 7). “It wasn’t even about her and I — we’ve always been good. It was more about us understanding that instead of making it about our relationship and what I want or what you want, we should just do what’s best for the children.”
Cannon also went on to say that he’s polyamorous — and the “one real shot” he gave to monogamy was with Carey, whom he wed in 2008 and divorced in 2016. The pair share fraternal twins Moroccan and Monroe.
Despite his claims that his only “real shot” at monogamy was with Carey, Nick Cannon has periodically tried to get her back through the years.
On Valentine’s Day last year, Cannon penned “Alone” for his now-ex-wife as he begged for her to come back.
The emotive track begins with a sample of Mariah Carey’s 1990 single “Love Takes Time” and serves as a heartfelt letter to Carey with lyrics.
“As much as I want you back, it’s probably better where you at/ Probably better where you at ’cause I’m still running the streets/ I’m still all in the sheets, having babies/ Models and singers and actresses all sayin’ they’re pregnant by me/ Have to pay $10,000 a week, I take of my peeps/ Now you don’t worry about when I creep, you got a man next to you when you sleep.”
In July 2022, Cannon admitted that he’d get back with Carey “in a heartbeat.” “Of course. That’s my fantasy. That’s somebody I will always love. I will never have a love like I had with Mariah. If I had the opportunity … if it could be the way that it was? Pfft. I’m there.”
He then added a reference to Carey’s 1995 single, “Always be my baby” before concluding, “We belong together.”
