The Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mrs Monica Ankrah said, 1,122 new teachers recruited under the double track system are yet to receive their salaries.
She said about 74 out of the total of 1,634 teachers who were appointed in the region last year November, received some of their salaries in May last month.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency(GNA), Mrs Ankrah explained that the delay in the payment of the salaries of the new teachers was partly due to the challenge that the staff of her office faced in getting access to the new technological platform for the processing of the data on all newly recruited public servants .
She explained that, all public institutions were on one platform called the Human Resources Management Information System (HRMIS) for the management of vacancies and recruitment in public service by the Public Services Commission.
She said due to the challenge, her staff had to work overnight daily to get access to the platform because it was better to get access to the HRSMI in the night.
Mrs Ankrah acknowledged the pain that the newly recruited teachers were going through and assured that most were expected to be paid soon.
