NBA YOUNGBOY ONCE HAD KENNY BEATS HELP HIS SON FIND A GUCCI BELT

EXCLUSIVE – NBA YoungBoy once pressed pause on a studio session with Kenny Beats and took the producer shopping with his son to help him pick out a Gucci belt.
HipHopDX caught up with KB on the Grammy Awards red carpet last month where he dubbed NBA YoungBoy and Young Thug‘s “Permanent Scar” as his favorite beat he’s ever made in part because of the bizarre shopping story that took place the same day.

“YoungBoy took me to the Gucci store and had me help his son find a belt,” Kenny said. “And I’m convinced that episode of Dave where they make the kid wear the wood shirt I’m convinced that’s about what happened to me because I told that story to [Lil] Dicky and then the episode [aired]. It was a long day.

“I’m at a session with YoungBoy and he’s like, ‘I’m going to the Beverly Center — the Gucci store. I was like, ‘Alright, I’ll stay here.’ And he’s like, ‘I’ll buy you something.’ I was like, ‘Alright, I’m coming.’”

The piano-tinged “Permanent Scar” features both Thugger and Quando Rondo and ultimately landed on NBA YoungBoy’s 2018 project 4Respect 4Freedom 4Loyalty 4WhatImportant.

The praise has been piling up for YoungBoy, who remains on house arrest in Utah. Last month, SZA hailed the Baton Rouge rapper as a modern example of Black excellence.

“The industry leans into the classism of celebrating only those Black musicians who play 50 instruments, went to all the right schools, did all the right programs, and talked to all the right people,” SZA said. “I don’t like that. Black excellence is NBA Youngboy putting out projects and speaking his heart and screaming into a microphone.”

On the music side, YoungBoy unleashed his latest single, “Next,” on Tuesday (February 28). The track came on the heels of YB setting the tone for 2023 with his I Rest My Case project in January, which debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 after moving 29,000 copies in its first week.

Meanwhile, NBA YoungBoy recently claimed he can tell if a rapper is “gangsta” or not just by looking at their mother.

In a clip from his recent interview with the Rap Radar Podcast, the Baton Rouge rapper opened up about his forthcoming album Don’t Try This At Home, on which he vowed to “talk crazy” — despite his recent “Stop the Violence” movement.
