Spread the love

The National Folklore Board has officially launched a series dubbed “Did You Know” that will create awareness of Ghanaian folklore through the sharing of folklore facts.

In a statement issued and signed by the Acting Director of National Folklore Board, Nana Adjoa Adobea Asante said her outfit in promoting and creating awareness of Ghana’s rich folklore to citizens has put together a series of programmes that would be outdoored on monthly basis throughout the year.

According to her, the series which is the first of its kind will not only maximise revenue and create jobs but will also promote and protect Ghana’s folklore from illicit exploitation by foreign interests.

She believes a joint approach by Ghanaians both at home and abroad to know their folklore can prevent foreigners from exploiting it.

“In this Year of Return, set aside to commemorate 400 years since the first African slaves left the shores of West Africa and in line with Government’s promise to maximise revenue and create jobs through promotion and protection of our folklore (including the protection of Kente and Adinkra Symbols) from illicit exploitation by foreign interests, the National Folklore Board makes a clarion call on Ghanaians, both home and abroad to return to our identity, our pride –our folklore”.

The “Did You Know” series which will focus on our music, dance, art, designs, names, signs and symbols, performances, ceremonies, architectural forms, handicrafts and narratives and many other artistic and cultural expressions will be broadcasted through traditional and online media platforms as well as social media.
