Henry Nana Boakye, National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency, Muntaka Mubarak instigated the clash between members of the NDC and NPP at the Electoral Commission’s office in the area.
To Nana B as he is popularly known in media circles, he expected Mr Mubarak to act more “responsibly” than what he did prior to the clash.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam Show on Monday, Nana B said he was happy when he went to the area because people were happily going about their duties.
“Hon Muntaka is someone I respect so much and expected him to be patient in dealing with the situation but instead, he attacked NPP’s Deputy Women’s Organiser who tried to pull a veil of a lady who came to the registration centre to know her identity,” he narrated.
“NDC supporters also joined in the attack when the NPP supporters at the venue went to rescue our Deputy Women’s Organiser and as I speak now, two NDC supporters are in police custody,” he added.
At least three people were injured at Asokore-Mampong in the Asawase Constituency of the Ashanti region after violent clashes broke out between supporters of the opposition NDC and the NPP on Friday at the office of the EC during the on-going Limited Registration exercise in the area.
