The national elections of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) have been postponed to July 10, 2019.

The elections which were earlier scheduled for June 26, 2019, were rescheduled by the National Elections Committee.

According to the chairman of the committee, Smart Nkansah, the decision was based on the feedback the committee received from the initial release of the voters register for the elections.

There had been concerns that the voters’ register had not been updated and there were some irregularities in the names of the voters.

The Chairman indicated that the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) which would supervise the elections is currently engaged with the limited voter registration exercise.

He has therefore assured the members of the Union of due diligence on the part of the committee to ensure the elections are free and fair, devoid of any electoral malpractices.

This is the first time the Union is exercising the universal suffrage for all card bearing members nationwide to exercise their franchise.

Previously, only delegates could vote during the national elections.

In all eight candidates are contesting for the presidency, 1st and 2nd vice presidents and general secretary.

Three other positions – treasurer, organizer and welfare officer are contested unopposed.
