Musicians are struggling, partnering them as a producer is key – Jayso
Sound engineer and rapper, Paul Nuamah Donkor known as Jayso, wants music producers and artistes to engaged together for profit sharing arrangement.
Speaking on The Gist with MzGee on the Joynews channel, he explained, he makes money as a music producer by partnering the artiste he produces since most of them (musicians) are struggling.
“I do more partnerships than taking money to produce music for people. I mean they themselves are struggling so it makes more sense if you are able to partner and make money together,” Jayso said.
The producer cum rapper told MzGee he advises a young and up and coming producer, to also look for an up and coming act so they can both build and grow together.
Asked if the aforementioned was the situation with Sarkodie, Jayso explained working on the ‘Pizza and Burger’ hitmaker’s first album. ‘Makye’ was not a partnership “it was more of me helping someone that I felt was really, really talented.”
He, however, said Sarkodie’s second album ‘Rapperholic’ was partnered project “because we planned it. There is money in production if you understand the business.”
According to the ‘Skillion’ he is not interested in mounting stages to perform his tunes.
Jayso disclosed he makes money from royalties beyond the shores of Ghana, with the United States being his biggest market.
