MTN Staff begin construction of dormitory for Women Action Group Vocational Training Institute

Staff of leading telecommunication providers MTN are constructing a state of the art of dormitory block for the Women Action Group Vocational Training Institute in Accra.

The construction of the facility is one of a number of projects being undertaken by the staff as part of this year’s ‘21 Days of Yellow Care’ initiative.

The campaign is an employee volunteerism initiative launched by MTN Ghana in 2007 and aims to secure high participation by staff and partners within their local communities.

Speaking to media men at the construction site, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh explained that this year’s campaigned is targeted at providing opportunities for the Ghanaian youth.

He remarked that aside the construction of the dormitory, MTN will also organize free training courses for some youth in bead making, hairstyling, cosmetics and fashion design.

“This project is part of our 21 Days of Yellow Care and the theme for this year is creating a brighter future for our youth. It is important that our staff participate because if you really want to support the communities in which you operate, it is important that our staff at least for a period during the year. This year we have approximately three projects that we are working on and we hope and know that all our staff will be out there supporting”.

“The projects focus on youth. Some of them are looking at youth who have abused drugs and are struggling. We are looking at supporting who are struggling mentally as well. Building and construction being part of it. But it steered towards education and supporting the youth”.

Touching on the project currently being undertaken by the firm, Selorm Adadevoh stated “It entails training in bead making, fashion, hairstyling and cosmetics for the females and there is also digital marketing component for the training, he said.

It is expected that at least 50 students will receive training in bead making, hairstyling, cosmetics, fashion design as well digital marketing by the end of the campaign.
