MTN should have given us a share of the GHC100,000 OV won – Awal

Budding artiste, Awal Mohammed of Talented Kidz and MTN Hitmaker fame has expressed disappointment in the main organisers MTN Ghana for making the scheme a ‘winner takes all’ show.

According to Mohammed Awal, 1st runner-up of the 7th edition of MTN Hitmaker in an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz Friday 1st February 2019, underground artists come to the show with the motive of getting the exposure to kickstart their music career but this is the case the scheme doesn’t support the winners with financial support but rather gives all the money to the one who emerges first.

In his assertion, it is a bad idea and the organisers should take a second look at it since it will go a long way to artists to start something small with whatever amount they get before they are luckily signed unto a record label.

According to Awal, he would’ve still raised this issue should he have won it.

Okailey Verse popularly known as OV made history as she was crowned the winner of MTN Hitmaker Season 7. She is the second female to emerge first at the MTN hitmaker after Freda Rhymes won the ultimate prize last year.

Awal Mohammed came second whiles Amakye took the third position at this year’s hitmaker grand finals held on 25th November.

OV took home a GHS100,000 recording deal plus other wonderful goodies including the bragging rights as the queen of MTN hitmaker Season 7.

In the same interview, Awal also noted that though he was groomed by Sarkodie after emerging as the third runner-up of TV3’s Talented Kidz, he doesn’t see it as a big deal should Sarkodie sign him unto SarkCess Music.
