Luke Combs Says His Grammys Performance With Tracy Chapman Is “Still Hard to Process”
He also thanked her for the impact she has had on countless singers since breaking out in the late ’80s.
Luke Combs took a moment to reflect on his Grammys week, including his already-iconic performance of “Fast Car” with Tracy Chapman. Combs and Chapman, who broke out in the late ’80s and doesn’t often make public appearances, broke the internet on music’s biggest night with a performance of her song that he covered and received a Grammy nomination for. The country singer posted a carousel of images of his time in Los Angeles, which featured photos of him with Chapman, his wife, Ed Sheeran and even Taylor Swift. The lengthy caption noted he had so many laughs, tears, hugs and cheers throughout the week. He also shared that he was grateful to his whole team for working to make this happen and to his wife for always being by his side.
He also looked back on his performance with Chapman and what it meant to him.
“When it comes to the performance it’s still hard to process how amazing it really was to be up there on that stage. No doubt a defining moment of my career,” he wrote. “Tracy, I want to send my sincerest thanks to you for allowing me to be a part of your moment. Thank you for the impact you have had on my musical journey, and the musical journeys of countless other singers, songwriters, musicians, and fans alike.”
He concluded, “I hope you felt how much you mean to the world that night. We were all in awe of you up there and I was just the guy lucky enough to have the best seat in the house.”
Chapman took to X (formerly Twitter) to share Combs’ message and thank him for everything. The Grammys marked her first public appearance since 2020.
