LIZZO BLASTS ‘DELUSIONAL’ CELEBRITY BEAUTY STANDARDS

Spread the love

Lizzo is tired of the beauty standards expected of celebrities and she refuses to allow anyone else to dictate how comfortable she should feel in her own skin.

In an Instagram post on Friday (January 6), the bikini-clad “Rumors” singer clapped back at all of the criticism she constantly faces over her body. While calling attention to how contradictory the comments are, Lizzo reminded critics that she’s here to make art – not fit into whatever expectations people have for her shape.

“The discourse around bodies is officially tired. The discourse around bodies is tired!” she began. “I have seen comments go from, ‘Oh my gosh, I liked you when you were thick! Why’d you lose weight? To, ‘Oh my gosh, why’d you get a BBL? I liked your body before.’ To, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so big. Ew. You need to lose weight – but for your health!’ To, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so little. You need to get ass or titties or something!’ To, ‘Oh my gosh, why did she get this work done? It’s just too much work!’

“Are we okay? Do you see the delusion?” Lizzo continued. “Do we realize that artists are not here to fit into your beauty standards? Artists are here to make art! And this body is art! And I’ma do whatever I want with this body. I wish that comments costed y’all money so we could see how much time we are fucking wasting on the wrong thing. Can we leave that shit back there please?”

Fans on social media aren’t the only ones who have had something to say about Lizzo’s body. Even Kanye West added his two cents, mentioning the singer while talking about comments on social media in an October interview with Fox News.

“When Lizzo loses 10 pounds and announces it, the bots… on Instagram, they attack her for losing weight, because the media wants to put out a perception that being overweight is the new goal,” Ye said. ‘When it’s actually unhealthy.”

In response, Lizzo addressed him on stage during a concert shortly afterward. “I feel like everybody in America got my muthafuckin’ name in their muthafuckin’ mouth for no muthafuckin’ reason,” Lizzo said to a Toronto crowd.

“I’m minding my fat Black beautiful business,” and then asked the audience, “Can I stay here? Who can I marry for that dual citizenship?”

Comedian Aries Spears also made unprovoked comments, comparing Lizzo to the “shit emoji.” Her fans immediately came to the singer’s defense, dragging Spears in his comments for days.
