Jason played for the Philadelphia Eagles for his entire 13 seasons in the league
Kylie Kelce knows that her husband Jason Kelce has a way with his words!
On Tuesday, NBC’s Philadelphia News 10 shared an exclusive interview with the mother of three, 31, discussing the now-former pro footballer’s recent decision to retire.
For her, his announcement was the “perfect summary” of his 13 seasons as a Philadelphia Eagles center.
“I think I was the only one that had heard the speech before he went into it,” she said of her 36-year-old spouse “I think it was just a perfect summary of 13 years. It was an incredible run he had as a player in the NFL.”
She added that Jason had been grappling with the thought of retirement for quite some time before publicly sharing the news during a press conference on Monday.
“I’ve heard multiple versions over the last four years. This was a completely different version,” Kylie said. “I think every year he sort of started from scratch as to what was sitting on the surface. But when he said that he was contemplating retirement for years, he means for years.”
Another moment he mentioned during the press conference was the first time he laid eyes on Kylie. Jason tearfully shared that he was grateful to the league for giving him that opportunity because the couple met at an Eagles Christmas party.
“I still remember the moment she walked through the door. The first instance is burned in my retina. It was like she glided through the opening,” he said during the press conference. “Then she started talking and I thought, ‘Man, is this what love feels like?'”
Kylie admitted that his version of events “cracks me up” because from what she remembers, he was pretty “intoxicated” that evening.
However, she still acknowledged that his words were “very, very sweet.”
During his emotional good-bye, he also thanked his wife for their family.
“She has also given me three beautiful girls and a life that increasingly brings me more fulfillment off the field than it does on,” he tearfully said.
The pair, who have been married since 2018, share daughters Wyatt, 4, Elliotte, 23 months, and Bennett, 12 months.
When discussing the response news of his retirement got, she said the “love and support is expected because I know who my husband is and the way he has conducted himself and how that has touched the lives of people.”
As the news traveled on Monday, many thanked Jason for his years of dedication on the field, including First Lady of the United States, Dr. Jill Biden, who quoted a post from the Philadelphia Eagles account, and added, “Congratulations on a legendary career, @JasonKelce.”
Before retiring he also had the opportunity to play his younger brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, when the siblings went head-to-head at the Super Bowl on Feb. 12, 2023.
The Chiefs came out on top with a final score of 38-35.
Once the game ended, Jason gave his little brother a hug and the two seemingly shared a few encouraging words with one another.
