Kwesi Appiah reveals Akufo-Addo’s growing interest in football
Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has revealed that President Nana Akufo-Addo is beginning to show more interest in Ghana football after a meeting with stakeholders.
According to coach Kwesi Appiah, the President has initiated plans for Ghana’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations this year.
Ghana qualified for the Nations Cup with game to spare following the disqualification of Sierra Leone.
“Let me salute the President for his involvement. About a week ago he called all stakeholders of the national team. He has started showing more interests. He has contacted the sponsors of the national team and everybody. I mean everybody involved in planning for this AFCON,” Appiah revealed on Silver FM on Thursday.
“The President says her doesn’t want the situation where we will have issues just before or during the tournament. He wants to gets everything done and that is why he has started this early.”
Ghana are chasing a fifth AFCON trophy since 1982 after coming close in 1982, 2010 and in 2015.
The Black Stars will face Kenya in the last round of games in March for AFCON 2019, with a place at the top of the table at stake.
