Kumasi: Seven injured after clash over land at Dagomba Line

About seven persons have sustained various degrees of injuries after a clash at Dagomba Line near Asawase in the Ashanti Region over a land dispute.

More than 100 persons have also been displaced after a fire was set to some structures and some properties were vandalized.

Narrating the incident to Citi News, some affected persons said they were asked to leave the area by a man who claims the land belongs to him but they resisted.

“We don’t know where to sleep. Some of them went to the market but just because of that, they returned. Some of them are packing their things and going. We don’t know where they will sleep.”

“Some of them lost their properties, money and other things. How to get money to eat, it is not going to be easy. This time around everybody is crying,” one person said.

But the man who claims to be the owner of the land occupied by the Dagombas, Imam Abdul Rahman Samba Kaado, said he was compelled to use force after dialogue had failed.

He told Citi News that he only took action after the court ruled in favour when the dispute was taken to court.

“After eight months, the court passed judgment in my favour. After that, we went to [the disputed area] with the bailiff and they gave us police to come and remove them.”

“We started removing them, they started throwing stones and other things. The police withdrew and later they came with reinforcements but still, they chased away the police with stones and went on to burn our stores.”
