Kristoff St. John’s Ex-Wife Blames “Celebrity Rehab” Clinic For Actor’s Death

She claims the facility released him early.
Just a month after the shocking death of Young & The Restless star Kristoff St. John, the coroner has issued a cause of death. The actor’s passing was accidental, brought on by hypertrophic heart failure. St. John struggled these last few years following the death of his son, Julian, after the 24-year-old took his own life while being treated at a mental hospital. His first wife and Julian’s mother, Mia St. John, was married to the actor from 1991-1995 and recently told The Blast that St. John was in a mental health facility not long before his death. She says that he was delusional having hallucinations, saying he saw his deceased son.

According to Mia, she was responsible for getting St. John hospitalized just a month before he died because he was so far deep into his depression. St. John allegedly threatened to kill himself and was abusing alcohol, as well. She says a few of his former Young & The Restless co-stars helped stage an intervention and after he agreed to get help, he was placed on an involuntary 5250 hold. In the state of California, that means a person who is thought to be a danger to themselves, to others, or gravely ill is placed in a mental hospital for up to 14 days. So, St. John was taken to the Celebrity Rehab center used on the reality show in Pasadena, California.

Mia claims she visited St. John often but when she called on February 1 she was told that he was released. His family was worried because they couldn’t locate him, but Mia says she eventually got him on the phone and he reportedly told her that Julian came to his door, asking to “take me on a walk.”

Following Julian’s death back in 2014, both Mia and St. John sued the facility where he took his life, stating that their son wasn’t properly being treated. Mia is considering doing the same for her ex-husband, as she says that the Las Encinas Mental Health Facility poorly managed St. John, releasing him prior to the complete 14 days. She says that St. John would still be alive if the center had done their job correctly. Also, although the cause of death is listed as hypertrophic heart failure, Mia says she knows the true cause is alcohol abuse.
