Krachi East MP’s 155-acre mango farm burnt down

A 155-acre farmland belonging to the Member of Parliament for Krachi East constituency who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Sanitation, Micheal Gyato has been burnt down by an unknown person.

The incident occurred last Monday.

Reports suggest that the incident is allegedly connected to the naming of Dambai as the capital for the newly created Oti region.

But the legislator, who is currently not in the country said he does not believe the two events have any connection.

Mr. Gyato’s farm is one of the largest on the Wurawura to Dambai road, employing about 60 youth of the area.

According to firefighters, the Mango farm measuring about 115 acres and teak plantation measuring about 40 acres were set ablaze deliberately.

According to Municipal fire officer for Dambai, Azuwieh Thomas, the fire was spotted from many parts of the farm at the same time making it difficult to combat.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Krachi, East Patrick Jilimah, who was unhappy about the situation called on the fire commander and other people who matter to speed up investigations and quickly bring the perpetrators to book.

“It is rather disappointing. When I saw it, I was disturbed so we have called on the community and the police and other security agencies to quickly investigate this matter and bring the perpetrators to book and I am hearing other farms belonging to the MP’s brother also got burnt and I cant tell if it was intentional or not,” the MCE noted.

He said investigation is still ongoing and perpetrators will be brought to book.
