Kevin Spacey’s Accusers Come Forward for First Time in New Explosive Docuseries Spacey Unmasked
Spacey’s alleged victims began to come forward with accusations against the actor in 2017
A new docuseries will dissect Kevin Spacey’s life, from childhood to superstardom and his allegations of sexual assault.
Unveiled by Variety, the trailer for the two-part series Spacey Unmasked shows “men go on the record about their experiences with the acclaimed actor.”
Per the official description, the docuseries “is a forensic look at a man who was once one of the most admired and respected actors in the world.” It will contain “never-seen-before interviews and archives” that examine Spacey’s life up to his acquittal in a trial where he faced 12 counts of alleged sexual assault.
“Kevin Spacey’s spectacular fall from grace came amid allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior,” the synopsis continued. “In 2023 Spacey was acquitted of sexual offenses against four men in a U.K. trial. This two-part series will investigate Spacey’s conduct and talks to multiple men unconnected to that case about their experiences with Kevin Spacey, almost all of whom have never spoken before.”
Spacey Unmasked will air on the U.K.’s Channel 4 on May 6 and 7, with international release dates yet to be determined. Warner Bros. Discovery acquired multi-territory distribution rights for the documentary — including the U.S., where it is set to premiere on Max and ID.
In light of the documentary, a spokesperson for Spacey, 64, sent Variety a statement from the actor: “I’m honored to be starring in my first film with Warner Brothers in many years. I hope the Academy takes note of some of the great acting by the lesser known cast.”
The former House of Cards star was accused of sexual assault by several men in 2017, at the height of the #MeToo movement. On Oct. 29, 2017, Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making sexual advances on him when he was 14 years old.
More allegations surfaced in the coming weeks, with filmmaker Tony Montana claiming Spacey groped him in 2003 and a London theater finding 20 counts of “inappropriate behavior” against the Academy Award winner.
Over the years, Spacey faced multiple charges of sexual assault and civil suits on the grounds of sexual misconduct. Rapp, 52, sued the actor in 2020, three years after his initial claims. However, following a 2022 trial, Spacey was found not liable for battery related to Rapp’s accusations.
Spacey was also charged with 12 counts of sexual assault in the U.K. for incidents between 2001 and 2013, to all of which he pled not guilty. In July 2023, a court found him not guilty of nine charges, with the other three struck out.
