The filmmaker spoke to PEOPLE at the 2024 Cam for a Cause Gala on Sunday, June 2 about the ‘High School Musical’ costars’ pregnancies
Kenny Ortega is sharing his excitement over two High School Musical stars’ expanding families!
The filmmaker, 74, who directed the musical trilogy starring Ashley Tisdale, 38, and Vanessa Hudgens, 35, opened up to PEOPLE at the 2024 Cam for a Cause Gala on Sunday, June 2 about the actresses’ pregnancies.
“I love that they’re pregnant at the same time. Hopefully those little girls get a chance to meet one another and grow up together and become friends,” Ortega tells PEOPLE.
He adds, “Oh, I think both of them are ready. I mean, Ashley was so ready for her first child, and I think Vanessa, same. I think they’re really excited, really, truly excited to be mothers.”
Ortega added that he thinks both of the stars have a glow about them right now.
“I’ve visited Ashley, and yeah, there’s a light, a glow around her as a mother,” he says. “It’s beautiful. And I see that in Vanessa as well. I’m happy for them. So happy for them.”
Tisdale, who played the role of Sharpay Evans in High School Musical, is expecting her second baby with husband Christopher French, while Hudgens — who starred as Gabriella Montez in the musical — is expecting her first baby with husband Cole Tucker, 27.
Taking part in a Q&A on her Instagram Stories on Monday, May 20, Tisdale opened up about being pregnant at the same time as her costar.
“How cool is it that you and Vanessa are having babies at the same time?!,” a question from a fan read to which the star, who is already mother to 3-year-old daughter Jupiter Iris, replied, “It’s very cool! I’m so excited for her and this new chapter in her life.”
