KENDRICK LAMAR, DIDDY & YG HELP NIPSEY HUSSLE EARN POSTHUMOUS PLATINUM PLAQUES

Kendrick Lamar, Diddy and YG are among the collaborators helping Nipsey Hussle rack up plenty of platinum plaques in the years since his tragic murder.

Thursday (February 16) marks the five-year anniversary since Nip’s seminal Victory Lap album was released and the RIAA posthumously awarded the late Crenshaw icon with a series of platinum plaques related to the 2018 LP.

The Grammy-nominated project is now multi-platinum (2x) while “Dedication” featuring Kendrick Lamar, “Blue Laces 2,” “Last Time That I Checc’d” with YG and the Diddy-helmed “Rap N-ggas” reached platinum status.

The Belly and Dom Kennedy-assisted “Double Up” is now 3x-platinum. Solo fan favorites such as “Grinding All My Life” and “Hussle & Motivate” are also double-platinum as of this week.

Victory Lap arrived to critic acclaim in 2018 and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 53,000 total album-equivalent units earned in the first week.

Hussle (real name Ermias Asghedom) was shot and killed outside his Marathon Clothing store in South Los Angeles in March 2019.

The alleged gunman, Eric Holder, was convicted on first-degree murder charges last year. Holder’s attorney attempted to have his charges reduced to manslaughter due to what he called an “inconsistent verdict,” but his motion was rejected by a Los Angeles judge.

Holder is due to be sentenced in the coming months and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Meanwhile, a NipseyHussle docuseries was officially announced in November with LeBron James’ SpringHill production company partnering with Marathon Films.

Titled Hussle, the doc will focus on Nip’s rise from his early days as a California kid to the acclaimed musician and activist he’s known as today.

This will give viewers “exclusive access” to “Nipsey’s inner circle,” and will include “never-before-seen archival footage,” and interviews with over 50 collaborators including Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Diddy, and his longtime partner, Lauren London.

“It’s an incredible honor for SpringHill to have a part in sharing Nipsey’s story and legacy with the world,” James said in a press release. “He used his gift to give back to his community and lived what it means to inspire, empower, and uplift others along the way. His words, his ambition, and his actions stick with me to this day as he continues to inspire myself, our company, and people everywhere.”
