Keke Palmer has found it “insane” that she was able to attend the 2023 Met Gala. Making her first-ever red carpet appearance after giving birth to her first child, the “Nope” actress shared what went through her mind about her attendance at the biggest night in fashion.
The 29-year-old actress came to the Monday, May 1 event just eight weeks after she and her boyfriend Darius Jackson welcomed their baby boy, Leodis, together. Speaking about her ability to participate, she said, “It feels insane.” She went on to elaborate, “But also so much more easy and breezy.”
On the reason why, the former “Scream Queens” star candidly explained, “Because nothing is harder than having a damn baby!” She continued, “So I feel like I am much more relaxed than ever before on any carpet.”
At the same event, Keke shared her thoughts and feelings about being a mother. Speaking to ET, she gushed over her experience as first-time mother, “I just I’m enjoying life. I’m very grateful. I have so much to be thankful for and so I’m just trying to enjoy every moment of it.”
Elsewhere in the chat, Keke declared that it “feels incredible” to watch her baby boy quickly grow up. She further gushed, “I mean, he’s just 8 weeks and he already changes every day.” She then revealed, “He was with us earlier, getting ready!”
For the Met Gala, Keke donned a custom form-fitting pastel Sergio Hudson tweed dress. Her sparkling gown had pearls and more than twelve thousand Swarovski crystals on it. She completed her look with a long baby blue cape and a pair of glossy rectangular pink earrings, and she styled her hair into a voluminous Hollywood ‘do.
This was not the first time Keke made an appearance at the Met Gala. In 2021, she attended the event to interview celebrities invited to the event. At the time, she explained to Vogue about her ensemble, saying, “The theme is American independence, and there’s no one better who comes to mind. I love Diana [Ross].”
“She calls herself ‘The Boss,’ and I call myself ‘Big Boss,’ so I thought okay, [she] would be a great person to pull from. It was important for me that for my first Met Gala, I wear something eye-catching, but also something that’s timeless, so when I look back on it 20 years from now, I can say, ‘That could be worn today and still be just as fabulous,’ ” she added.
