Keith Powers Shares the Secret to His Relationship with Ryan Destiny: ‘We Come Back’ (Exclusive)
Keith Powers is dishing on the secret to his relationship with Ryan Destiny. The actor and Rémy Martin brand ambassador spoke to PEOPLE exclusively while at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in France on May 20, and he shared that he attributes the success of their years-long romance to the fact that they “genuinely are best friends” and feel like “family.”
“I think partnership really works when you really do look at your partner [the way you would look at] siblings, in a way,” Powers, 32, said. “We could fight. We might not talk to each other for a minute. But we love each other. We come back. You know what I’m saying?”
“And I feel like for me and Ryan … it’s like this is family. It’s not a thing where [it’s like], ‘Oh, I didn’t like [that] she did a certain thing and now I don’t want to be in a relationship,’ “ he continued.

Powers also shared that his relationship with Destiny, 30, often feels effortless because they are so in sync.
“It’s just like we’re so locked in and we just get each other’s jokes and it’s just easy. We just flow honestly,” the Uglies star said. “And she teaches me a lot. I don’t know if I teach her stuff, but she teaches me so much. She’s made me a better artist, so it’s been great.”
Powers and Destiny split in 2022 after four years of dating, but Destiny recently confirmed that their relationship was back on while speaking to PEOPLE at the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards on Feb. 27.

“I just love him so much and I just appreciate him every step of the way,” the actress said at the time. “He’s such a cheerleader for me, as I am for him. It just means everything. We’re just best friends — you know, we’re more than best friends.”
While speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at Cannes, Powers also shared that he feels as though he has been coming into his own as a person and as an artist — and that he attributes it to leaning into his authentic self in recent years.

“I think I was just exhausted with the idea of feeling like I had to portray someone to people,” he said. “It became overbearing. I felt like if I got to be like this, [then working in entertainment] isn’t fun anymore. And I learned quickly the stuff that I just wasn’t good at and I wasn’t interested in, and I was like, ‘It’s cool. I don’t have to be that. I can just be me and the people who see me are going to accept me for that.’ “
The actor also said that working with the French cognac house Rémy Martin has helped solidify his belief that authenticity ultimately leads to more fulfilling projects and collabs, noting that the Rémy Martin creative team is “just super cool and chill,” adding, “It’s just easier to be myself in those spaces.”
“It came about kind of randomly, honestly,” he said of his role as the company’s brand ambassador. “I just had a mutual friend reach out about how the brand [was a fan] of my work, and I was like, ‘I’m a fan of Rémy Martin … So it was very organic and natural.”
