Kamala Harris ‘Very Proud’ to Have Taylor Swift’s Endorsement: ‘I Really Respect the Courage That She Has Had’

The vice president called the singer an “incredible artist” while admitting they were “on different sides of the Super Bowl last year”

Kamala Harris says she’s “very proud” to have Taylor Swift’s endorsement of her presidential campaign.

In a sit-down interview with WIRED posted on Friday, Sept. 20, Harris, 59, answered “the web’s most-searched questions” about her. When she revealed a Google search for “Kamala Harris Taylor Swift,” the vice president revealed that she was “very proud to have the support” of the 34-year-old pop superstar.

“She’s an incredible artist,” Harris continued. “I really respect the courage that she has had in her career to stand up for what she believes is right.”

Despite their aligning politics, Harris joked that she and Swift don’t have a lot in common when it comes to the NFL teams they root for. “But we were on different sides of the Super Bowl last year,” she said, nodding to Swift’s commitment to boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs.

“I am a 49ers fan, but who’s mad at anyone for being loyal to their team, right?” the politician quipped.

Swift officially backed Harris in the 2024 presidential race on Sept. 10, moments after Harris and former President Donald Trump wrapped their first televised debate. At the time, the “Lover” singer shared the news in an Instagram post, in which she seemingly referenced the fake A.I. images previously shared by Trump that falsely showed her endorsing him.

“It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift wrote. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

After vowing to cast her vote for Harris, Swift wrote that the vice president “fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” calling her a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and applauding her decision to choose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story,” Swift concluded her post, which she signed off as a “Childless Cat Lady,” a reference to 2021 comments made by Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance.
