Her Royal Highness, Princess Dina Mired of Jordan and President Union of International cancer control, has said Ghana does not need to generate entirely new systems to fight the disease cancer; all they need to do according to her, is to “Copy and Paste” successful methods that have already been implemented by other developed countries.

“Copy and paste what others do, you do not have to reinvent. It is all there, but you have to have the resilience, put cancer as a priority, and start working” the UICC President said

Addressing participants at the Global World Cancer Day Celebration at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, the Jordanian Princess registered her displeasure at the high death rate of persons affected by the disease in Ghana.

Using her son’s ‘survival story’ as an example, she encouraged stakeholders to do more to save lives of cancerous persons in the country.

“You have to put systems in place. Nobody is going to build you infrastructure. If little Jordan can do it, you can can do it” she said.

“You have great doctors, I have met many of you here in the past few days. But, you need to systemize, you need to put cancer as a priority” Princes Dina added.

The Global event themed, “I am, and I will”, was held under the auspices of His Royal Highness, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), the Kumasi Cancer City Project and the Union of International cancer control.

Addressing the Global celebration, Her Excellency, (Mrs.) Rebecca Akuffo-Addo said the unfortunate trend of cancer in Ghana will end if everyone plays their respective roles. She reiterated the commitment of her husband to providing quality affordable healthcare in the country.

She further called on all to promote a healthy lifestyle.

“We need to encourage people to patronize a healthy lifestyle. We have to start somewhere, and we have to start now!”, Mrs. Akuffo-Addo stated.

In 2017, Kumasi was selected by the UICC as the fourth city in the world and the first in Africa to be part of the City Cancer Project C-Can 2025 during the World Leader’s Summit in Mexico.

This was after the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, had made a presentation which highlighted Kumasi’s readiness to be a key cancer city on the African continent.
