Journalists’ torture: I doubt National Security’s side – Kwakye Ofosu

Former Deputy Communications Minister under the erstwhile John Mahama administration, Felix Ofosu Kwakye says it is hard to believe the statement by National Security regarding the alleged torture of Modern Ghana journalists.

To the former Deputy Minister, the recent track record of the National Security at the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election and other activities make them “capable” of the torture allegations.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam show, he condemned recent reports of attacks on journalists in Ghana in line of duty.

“We need a public committee of inquiry to look into the allegations by the journalists and the denial by the Security Council because this was something done in secret but from series of encounters Ghanaians have had with the National Security, it will be hard to believe they did not torture the journalists,” he said.

He urged the Akufo-Addo-led administration to tread cautiously in dealing with press freedom in Ghana.

The New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on his part clarified that the government is not intolerant to divergent views.
