Jon Gosselin Won’t Let His Kids Be on a Reality Show: ‘I Worked Hard to Get Them Off TV’ (Exclusive)
The father of eight tells PEOPLE he’s open to returning to TV — just not with his kids
Jon Gosselin is interested in returning to TV — but he won’t be sharing the screen with his kids again.
While attending the Beverly Hills Rejuvenation Clinic opening in West Hollywood, California, on April 25, where he entertained guests with a DJing performance, the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star, 47, told PEOPLE he recently met with “some TV people” about a potential new project.
“I’ve always been open to television, but I was indemnified by TLC, so I couldn’t sign a contract. But that’s all in the wayside now,” he says, adding that he had also been waiting to make a move until his kids were older. (He shares 23-year-old twins Mady and Cara and 19-year-old sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel with ex-wife Kate Gosselin.)
While he’s keen to jump back into TV, Gosselin is quick to note that it will be a solo act. “I’m not going to involve them and stuff like that as well, no,” he says of his kids.
“It’s just like, I worked really hard to get them off TV,” he adds, before conceding, “But they’re adults now — if they want to make their own decision, they can.”
Gosselin teased that his new show would be about “DJing, clubbing and all that kind of stuff.” He has been doing DJ gigs for nearly 10 years now, and so far, his kids haven’t caught one of his club sets.
He says the sextuplets are still too young for the 21-and-over venues, and he doesn’t work in New York where Mady and Cara currently live. But that’s not the only reason they haven’t seen their dad work the DJ table live.
