“It’s not like Val would come up to you [and say,] ‘So I see you kissing my wife. I thought you were a comrade,'” Dave Coulier joked

Fuller House fans may have seen sparks fly DJ Tanner and Matt Harmon after kissing for the first time, but in reality, actor John Brotherton says the moment was a bit uncomfortable.

During an episode of the Full House Rewind podcast on May 24, John, who played Harmon, recalled the moments following his first onscreen kiss with Cameron Candace Bure (DJ) and meeting her husband, Valerie “Val” Bure.

When host Dave Coulier asked if it was “a little uncomfortable” rubbing shoulders with Val immediately after, John admitted to feeling a bit of tension. However, he was nothing but kind upon introduction.

“I love Val, but, you know, he’s a former professional hockey player, Russian, different culture but honestly, such a sweetheart,” he explained, sharing how Candace has mentioned how her husband can be “dry” at times. “But when you can get a giggle out of him here and there!”

“It’s not like Val would come up to you [and say,] ‘So I see you kissing my wife. I thought you were a comrade,'” Dave joked to which John laughed and replied, “Right!”

“He’s got a great sense of humor,” Dave continued while John agreed.

After meeting at one of the professional hockey player’s games in 1994, the couple dated for two years before getting married in 1996. Since then, they’ve welcomed three children and have gone into business together.

In a November 2020 episode of the Confessions of a Crappy Christian podcast, the actress opened up about how the couple’s pledge to prioritize intimacy and their shared faith has kept their relationship going strong for over two decades.

“I’ve been married for 24 years,” she said. “I’m a Christian, my husband’s a Christian, and I’m really proud that we’ve managed to stay married for 24 years. And the fact that we have fun and we flirt together. This is part of what makes our marriage work.”

The following year, the former View co-host delved deeper into the importance of maintaining physical intimacy and why she considered it one of her secrets to a long-lasting marriage.
