In a joint interview, Garner’s mother, Pat, also admitted that she “howled” when the actor left home for college.
Open displays of emotion seem to be a Garner family trait.
Jennifer Garner and her mother, Pat Garner, appeared on “Today with Hoda & Jenna” Monday, and the mom and daughter duo opened up about their babies fleeing the nest.
The “Family Switch” star — whose daughter, Violet Affleck, graduated from high school last month — admitted that she had a really hard time reckoning with her kid hitting this particular milestone.
“My eldest is about to go to college,” the Emmy-nominated actor said on the daytime talk show.
“I was a wreck the whole month leading up to [her graduation],” she continued. “Every awards ceremony, every final everything. I just cried at everything.”
“I cried on planes trying to think about it,” the “Love, Simon” star went on, before admitting: “Then the day of was so happy that there was nothing to be other than just so proud and happy.”
Garner’s mother completely understood her daughter’s feelings, admitting to the hosts that she “howled” when the future “Alias” star moved away to college.
“‘She’ll never come home again!’” Pat Garner recalled dramatically saying to her husband upon her daughter leaving.
The topic was broached on “Today” thanks to Garner posting some very sweet photos of herself on Instagram last month in which she was openly bawling during Violet’s graduation.
“Tell me you have a graduate without telling me you have a graduate. 🎓 (bless our hearts 🥺♥️🤣),” she wrote, poking fun at herself.
