It’s hard being a gospel artiste in Ghana – Erico

Gospel artiste, Erico has bemoaned the difficulty in producing and working as a gospel musician in Ghana.

He said producers and the churches are not ready to help gospel musicians to produce and promote their music.

Speaking in an interview with Bismark Boachie (DJ Premier) on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM Saturday, 27 October 2018, Erico noted that producers are turning away from gospel to hiplife music.

In his view: “Hiplife has gained upper hand over gospel music in Ghana but we claim Ghana is a Christian nation. I don’t know why people are investing more in hiplife than gospel music. When we talk about the issues of money in gospel music, people say, it’s God’s work, so why do we take or need money, but I also ask: ‘what should we use to promote God’s work’? God’s work is money and anything which will help with the gospel music is money.”

Erico said: “Anointing without money is an annoyance, you are just making noise. Somebody does not sing well, but because of his money, he’s promoting his music and you’ll think he’s doing well, but there are better gospel musicians who have no money to promote their works…”

According to Erico, Ghanaians pretend to love gospel music but gospel music and gospel artistes barely get recognition during award shows.

Erico wants more investment in gospel music if Ghanaians claim Ghana is a Christian nation.

He won the third edition of TV3’s mentor reality show.
