Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have been through a lot together. The pair have been besties for ages — they even dated two Jonas Brothers at the same time. The two friends continue to be super close, but a new report says that Gomez may have some concerns with Swift’s burgeoning relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce.
Before we dive in, we want to flag that this information comes from an unnamed source and not Gomez, Swift, or their reps, so don’t take it as the gospel truth. As with all celebrity rumors, it’s best to remember that this is all currently speculation.
Page Six reports that Gomez has some ~feelings~ about how public Swift has been regarding her new beau: going to his games and cheering him on from the family suite, hanging out with his mom and dad, getting papped on dates. “Selena thinks Taylor going to games and gallivanting through New York immediately after just meeting Travis is something that is very unlike her,” the source told Page Six. “Historically, Taylor’s always been super private about everything, and now with this [relationship], she’s so open about it that it’s just very odd for Selena.”
According to the source, Swift and Gomez are “not in a fight” about Gomez’s reported stance, given that they were just seen at dinner together, but Gomez doesn’t want to be part of the conversation around Tayvis. “Selena just doesn’t want to be part of the media frenzy because it’s really chaotic,” the source explained. “It didn’t come from a malicious place, and it’s not that she doesn’t like them together. She’s just concerned about the way it’s being navigated.” The source adds that Gomez isn’t alone in her alleged feelings — they claim Swift’s other close friends the Haim sisters are in the same boat.
There are a few “hmm” moments here, notably that Swift hasn’t been particularly private about her relationships prior to former partner Joe Alwyn; she has frequently been spotted out and about with people she dated. (Never forget Tom Hiddleston in the I Heart TS tank top!) It also just doesn’t seem like something Gomez would say, given how vocal she has been in defending Swift in the past.
We’re not the only ones who are taking this news with a healthy dose of skepticism, either. As noted by Cosmopolitan, celeb gossip account DeuxMoi weighed in, saying of the potential validity alleged situation, “Going to go out on a limb here…. no.” A follower hopped into the discourse, telling DeuxMoi they “can confirm the article about selena and the haim sisters not approving of ts and tk is completely false.”
Teen Vogue reached out to Gomez and Haim’s reps for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.
