I’m on weed break – Shatta Wale
Controversial Ghanaian Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, has revealed that he has taken an indefinite break from weed smoking.
This comes as a huge surprise, considering the fact that in 2017 he advised his Shatta Movement fan base to feel free and smoke weed, even though it is an illegal substance and one could be arrested and jailed for possessing or smoking it.
Speaking on Good Evening Ghana in an exclusive interview with Paul Adom Otchere, Thursday night, the musician acknowledged that his eccentric behavior and social media rants are not influenced by smoking as some people have suggested.
He told Paul, “I stopped smoking because people thought weed was influencing me in the industry and I wanted to show people that I love dancehall but I can stop smoking weed”.
“I want the public to know that just as my father watched me grow up into the wonderful person that I am now, I also want to see my kids grow.
“Again, people have the misconception that I need to smoke weed to be ‘high’ in order to render a good show, but I want them to know that I’m delivering on God-given talent and not under the influence of substances like weed.
“Though I have come out publicly to state the fact severally that I’m on weed break, they don’t believe me,” he said.
Asked whether he smokes other substances, he said he now smokes Cigar as inspired by a mentor of his from Mexico.
