I’m not a wicked person, I can’t even hurt a fly — Patience Ozokwor
There is a perception that veteran Nigerian actress, Patience Ozokwor is a wicked woman because of the stereotyped roles she plays in Nollywood.
The Enugu-born movie star usually plays the role of a wicked mother-in-law or step-mother in movies she stars in.
However, the legendary actress claims that contrary to popular opinion, she is the farthest from being wicked.
In an interview with Punch, Mama G, as she is affectionately called, stated that she is a kind, soft-hearted soul who can’t even hurt a fly.
“I am very soft-hearted and I cry easily. However, I believe in facing whatever is at hand squarely and doing a good job,” she said.
She added that the movie roles she plays don’t portray her true personality and character in real life.
“Sometimes, I cry when I watch some of the movies I acted in. I am nothing like that and you can never see me where wicked acts are being perpetuated.
“If anybody close to me does something wrong, I will not shield the person. Like I have said several times, I am an actress and every character I have ever played ended on the set,” she said.
Patience Ozokwor, 60, is widely recognized as one of the greatest Nollywood actors of all time. The mother-of-three debuted on the movie scene about 20 years ago and has since won multiple awards, including being honoured in 2014 with the Nigerian Centenary Award.
