Ice Spice addresses ‘rude’ claims Taylor Swift is only her friend for clout

Karma is her BFF being Taylor Swift.

Ice Spice addressed the “rude” claims that the 14-time Grammy winner only befriended her for clout during her cover story for Rolling Stone released Thursday.

“Why would she not want to be my friend?” she asked the outlet. “Taylor f—ks with me. She’s so funny. I think our personalities mesh really well.”

If the rapper’s clapback wasn’t enough, Swift herself revealed why she is so drawn to Ice for the story.

“I love when I meet a new artist who takes a keen interest in not just the music, but the music industry and how it works,” she told Rolling Stone.

“Seeing Ice lean into the strategic, financial, and business aspects of her career is really exciting for me.”

She continued, “I knew based on the questions she asked and the observations she made that she didn’t just want to be a passenger in her own career. She wanted to be the driver of it.”

Ice, 24, and Swift, 34, first gave fans a glimpse of their friendship via their collaboration on the latter’s remix of “Karma.” The video was released on May 27, 2023.

That same weekend, the “Bejeweled” singer invited her collaborator and pal up on stage during an Eras Tour stop at New Jersey’s MetLife stadium to perform their song.

However, their collaboration came with harsh criticism, as fans accused Swift of working with the “Barbie World” hitmaker to make up for her then-beau Matty Healy spewing racist remarks about her. She never addressed the gossip.

After debuting the “Karma” video, the duo appeared to have a blast together at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, where they were seated next to one another. Ice also joined Swift and her pals at the 2024 Super Bowl in February.

By the time their friendship became public, Ice (real name Isis Naija Gaston) was a star by her own doing, having gone viral on TikTok in 2021.

In 2022, her song “Munch (Feelin’ U)” charted on the Billboard Bubbling Under 100 chart. The following year, her track “In Ha Mood” topped the chart and peaked at No. 58 on the Hot 100.

Furthermore, her collaborations “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” with PinkPantheress and “Princess Diana” with Nicki Minaj peaked at No. 3 and 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively.

According to Ice, however, she and Swift became friendly years before their collaboration and her rise to fame.

She told Variety in September 2023 that she met Swift after watching her 2020 documentary, “Miss Americana.”

“That’s my sis,” she gushed.
