Gunna’s Charity Event With Goodr Canceled By Walmart Over Security Concerns

Gunna‘s plans to distribute $100K in gift cards at an Atlanta-area charity event in partnership with Goodr have been halted due to security concerns.

On Saturday (December 17), the City of South Fulton Police Department posted an information release to its Facebook page announcing the cancellation of the event.

“As we had been working with Walmart to address security for the gift card giveaway that was to be hosted by Gunna and Goodr company on Sunday, we learned that Walmart has canceled the event,” read the statement. “Any further information on why the event was canceled must be obtained directly from Walmart.”

Gunna announced his partnership with Goodr, a sustainable waste management and hunger relief company, just hours after he was released from the Fulton County Jail on Wednesday (December 14) following his acceptance of a plea deal in the ongoing YSL Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) case.

The event was scheduled to take place at Walmart in the Atlanta suburb of College Park on Sunday (December 18). What would have been Gunna’s fifth annual holiday giveaway was set to see 1,000 families who shop at the retail giant each receive a $100 gift card.

Those interested in participating in the event were required to pre-register for the giveaway online. In a statement to HipHopDX, Goodr Founder and CEO Jasmine Crowe-Houston apologized “for any inconvenience this unexpected turn of events has caused” and said that her company would update registered families about the event’s status.”

“Goodr was saddened to learn of Walmart’s decision to cancel the 5th Annual Gunna’s Great Giveaway event today,” Crowe-Houston wrote. “Gunna and the entire Goodr team were looking forward to brightening the holidays of the 1,000 families that registered. We are aware of how much the promised gifts meant to those families and we are collectively working to find an alternate solution.”

The non-profit has partnered with Gunna on a number of Atlanta-area initiatives in the past, including free Pop-up Grocery Markets, coat giveaways, back-to-school donation events and a permanent free shopping installation for the students at Ronald E. McNair Middle School where the rapper once attended.

Launched at the top of the 2021-2022 school year, Gunna’s Drip Closet & Goodr Grocery Store also provides students of the Title 1 school and their families with access to free food, clothing and hygiene items during the school year.
