The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has, with immediate effect, banned groupings within the party.

The party has posited that it does not recognise such groupings and that they must cease to exist with immediate effect.

A statement issued by the Deputy General Secretary of the party in charge of operations, Mr Peter Boamah Otokunor, said the attention of the leadership of the NDC had been drawn to the unlawful formation of movements, pressure groups and fan clubs in the party in some selected constituencies.

Such groupings, he said, had been sources of conflicts in the past, stressing that “the party does not recognise any such groupings and they must cease to exist with immediate effect.”

The statement gave some constituencies where the unlawful groups have emerged as Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region, Bodi in the Western Region, Upper Denkyira East in the Central Region and Bolga Central in the Upper East Region.

Also, constituency executive committees of the party have been directed to communicate to the leadership of such groups to dissolve them or risk being sanctioned.

The various regional executive committees have also been requested to monitor the development and apply sanctions where appropriate.
